Fresh out of hip replacement surgery and armed with my favorite reacher/grabber tool, I am sitting down with the Sofa Squad for a cold, blind reaction to a fascinating conversation between Mackenzie and her mother, recorded just one day before her historic trial began. Known widely as the "Hell on Wheels" trial. This case centers around the tragic, high speed crash that claimed the lives of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and his friend, Davion Flanagan.
While the defense argued that Mackenzie suffered a medical episode causing her to black out, the court ultimately rejected that story. In August 2023, Mackenzie Shirilla was convicted of multiple felony charges, including murder, and sentenced to 15 years to life, with the recent Netflix documentary The Crash reigniting intense global debate over whether this was a horrific accident or a deliberate, calculated act.
