Farmhouse renovation UK life this week meant structural repairs, hidden cracks, dusty decisions, and one very happy little playground reveal.
After weeks of nursery bugs and illness at home, we returned to the farmhouse to find that progress had still been made. Lee has been replacing damaged joists, strengthening ceiling cords, repairing rotten wall plates, and helping get the upstairs structure safer and more secure. The new en suite footprint is now in place too, which makes the upstairs layout feel a little more like a future home.
Of course, this is an old house, so it was never going to be that simple. When the final piece of plaster came off, it revealed one of the biggest cracks we’ve found so far. It now needs proper repair, and it’s another reminder that with a 120-year-old farmhouse, the real work is often hidden until you strip everything back.
There were also plenty of small but important jobs: blowing dust from the walls ready for lime plaster, reviewing electrical and plumbing plans, working through the bathroom moisture dilemma, and trying not to overthink every single decision.
But the best part of the week was outside. Building the boys’ play area gave us a small glimpse of what this place is really meant to become: not just a building site, but a family home full of ordinary, happy moments.
