A desperate search is underway after a devastating avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak swept away 10 climbers, including renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja.
The avalanche struck on July 30, burying an international expedition made up of climbers from Nepal, Pakistan, the United States, China and Oman. Rescue teams have recovered four bodies, while the remaining climbers are still missing as helicopters, drones and ground crews continue searching the mountain.
Purja, famous for climbing all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks in a record time, had described Broad Peak as a mountain that demanded complete respect just days before the tragedy. Officials say GPS signals have been detected high on the mountain, but no signs of movement have been confirmed. Families and the global mountaineering community continue to hope for a miracle.
