Poilievre echoes emergency-alert concern for children with autism after 11-year-old's death

As the Calgary community continues to grieve, some are calling for changes to the emergency-alert system to better protect vulnerable children, including Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.

"Where would a child with autism be tempted to wander? What kind of special needs might they have when they are found? These are all things that can be trained for first responders," Poilievre said.

The body of an 11-year-old Calgary boy, Parker, who had been missing since July 16, has been found by Calgary police. Parker was the subject of a massive 11-day-long search, involving hundreds of police officers, search and rescue experts and community volunteers.

The boy, who was neurodivergent and non-verbal, was last seen in person at his dayhome in the 0 to 100 block of Connaught Drive near Northmount Drive Northwest sometime between 11:08 a.m. and 11:41 a.m. on July 16.
