US soldier killed in Iraq as Iran conflict death toll rises

The United States says another service member has been killed as tensions with Iran continue to escalate.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that a US soldier died in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of an unexploded Iranian drone. The latest casualty brings the US military death toll in the conflict to 17.

The announcement comes as Washington carries out further strikes against Iranian-linked targets following attacks on US forces in the region.
