Nine prescription bottles. Seven different medications. And a state police lieutenant who counted the pills left in every one of them, out loud, in front of the jury.
This is Day 6 of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts v. Lindsay Clancy, the case the country has followed as the Duxbury Mom trial. Lindsay Clancy is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan. The defense does not contest that the children died. What it contests is whether Lindsay Clancy was criminally responsible, raising postpartum psychosis and involuntary intoxication, and that fight runs straight through everything the Commonwealth put on the stand today.
Before the jury even came back in, the defense stipulated on the record to a set of physical facts so the Commonwealth would not have to call the dozens of witnesses it would otherwise take to prove them. Then three witnesses built the state's physical case: the trauma surgeon who treated Lindsay Clancy's own catastrophic injuries the night of January 24, 2023, the state police lieutenant who inventoried her medications, and the forensic scientist who documented what investigators found inside and outside 47 Summer Street.
