Vancouver businesses report lost revenue due to 2026 FIFA World Cup
Over several weeks, the FIFA World Cup captivated millions of Canadians at home and abroad. While bars and restaurants benefited from the World Cup craze, other businesses bracing for a boost were left sorely disappointed.
“The World Cup was a competitor to local entertainment options, as opposed to one that would attract more people to the city,” Nikki Wright, General Manager of the Underground Comedy Club in Vancouver, said.
As Sarah MacDonald reports, with the turf rolled up in Vancouver and Toronto, analysts are already conducting an economic post-mortem.
