TRC Cases Inquiry | Cele denies political interference claims
Former Police Minister, and National Police Commissioner, Bheki Cele, has explained how his history as an anti-apartheid activist influenced his decision to resist paying legal costs for apartheid-era perpetrators.
He has testified at the TRC Cases Inquiry in Newtown, Johannesburg.
Cele blames delays in the investigation and prosecution of TRC Cases on an endemic lack of resources, saying there was no political interference in his work, and he never exerted any on his subordinates.
SABC reporter Ntlantla Kgatlhane says Cele served as National Police Commissioner between 2008 and 2011, and as Police Minister from February 2018 until June 2024.
