Canada has expressed concern after a confrontation between Chinese and Filipino vessels in the disputed South China Sea.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand called the incident "troubling," adding that Canada does not agree with "intimidation as a means of addressing disputes," urging countries to follow international law.

China, meanwhile, said countries not directly involved have "no right to interfere" and urged them to stop "exaggerating tensions and provoking confrontation."

Both comments came after the latest maritime clash between China and the Philippines.
