SickKids doctor charged in Internet Child Exploitation investigation

A doctor at SickKids Hospital in Toronto is facing charges and has been placed on immediate leave following an investigation into internet child exploitation.

Dr. Dilan Dissanayake is charged with accessing and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The Toronto Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Section began an investigation in January 2026, after an electronic device was allegedly used to access and download child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police executed a search warrant at both the hospital and Dr. Dissanayake’s home and seized multiple devices, including a work laptop.
