FIFA president Infantino losing support for re-election bid over World Cup selloff plan

International pressure is mounting on FIFA president Gianni Infantino to resign after the spectacular collapse of his controversial plan to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors.

After facing mass backlash from all corners of the soccer world for proposing the creation of a $20 billion company to run the World Cup with private investors, Infantino quickly took a 180-degree turn and abandoned that plan.

But the damage is already done. European soccer body UEFA is threatening FIFA with legal action.
