Andy Burnham exempts rapists and child sex offenders from early release

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced changes to the government's prisoner early release scheme, confirming that rapists, serious child sex offenders and grooming gang offenders will be excluded.

The first releases have also been delayed until October, with ministers citing prison capacity and the need to give probation services and victims more time to prepare.
