US President Donald Trump has told reporters on Air Force One that there is a deal on the Strait of Hormuz and that there will be a deal on the denuclearisation of Iran, with negotiations between the US and Iran set to begin on Monday afternoon.
Trump said he called off major attacks he had planned to carry out against Iran on Friday at the request of what he called "the three primary groups"—Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar—who urged him to hold off and pursue a deal instead.
Trump said he asked Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a phone call on Saturday whether he preferred an attack or a deal, and the Crown Prince said he would "much prefer a deal." Trump described the planned attack as "the biggest attack since the Second World War" that would have been "disastrous" for Iran.
