RTMC Corruption Unit nabs licence fraud mastermind
The Road Traffic Management Corporation says further arrests are imminent as investigators widen their probe into what is believed to be an extensive fraud network operating within South Africa's vehicle registration and licensing system.
This comes after authorities arrested the alleged ringleader of a multimillion-rand syndicate operating across Gauteng and the Free State.
It's believed that the group used stolen NaTIS login credentials, bogus companies, deceased people's identities and manipulated vehicle classifications to evade licence fees, while also fraudulently issuing roadworthy certificates.
The arrest follows a three-year investigation involving the RTMC, Hawks and SAPS.
