Cauvery Row: TN CM Vijay Defers August 3 Meeting with Karnataka CM | Water Dispute Latest | News18
A key meeting aimed at easing the decades-old Cauvery water-sharing dispute has been postponed after Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar requested Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to defer the August 3 talks in Bengaluru. Karnataka cited the prevailing atmosphere as unsuitable for bilateral discussions amid protests and heightened political tensions over Cauvery water releases. The postponement delays what would have been the first high-level bilateral meeting between the two states' chief ministers on the issue in around 14 years. The Cauvery dispute, including concerns over water releases and the proposed Mekedatu project, remains one of the most sensitive inter-state issues in southern India.
