“Not in favour of sweatshops”: US claims Canada not enforcing prohibition on forced labour
At the same time U.S. President Donald Trump’s 10 per cent global tariffs expired overnight, a new forced labour tariff came into effect, sparking global backlash.
“We’re not in favour of sweatshops,” said Trump’s trade representative Jamieson Greer, who has outlined his rationale for hitting Canada with the new 10 per cent levee on non-free trade compliant goods.
The Canadian government has rejected Greer’s claim that it’s not enforcing its own prohibition on forced labour.
