Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for striking two Saudi oil tankers, Encelia and Layla, in the Red Sea near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. The group said it used ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones, claiming both vessels caught fire after violating its newly announced maritime blockade on Saudi-linked shipping. The attack marks the Houthis’ first naval operation since declaring the embargo earlier this week. The group also claimed around 10 ships had already turned back because of the blockade. The escalation has heightened tensions in the Red Sea, raising fresh concerns over regional security and global shipping routes.
