New UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is facing a series of major economic and political challenges as his government begins its term.
On the issues confronting Downing Street, including a multibillion-dollar defence spending gap, pressure over controversial NHS technology contracts, and questions over plans to build one million social homes.
The government is also preparing for a possible cabinet reshuffle as Burnham seeks to strengthen his administration and respond to growing public concerns over the economy, housing and public services.
