RUSSIA WARNS BALTICS: 'Revival of Nazism' as Moscow Slams Treatment of Russian Speakers
Russia accused Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia on Thursday of pursuing discriminatory policies against Russian-speaking communities, alleging violations of linguistic, cultural and educational rights during a presentation at the United Nations in Geneva. Grigory Lukiyantsev, Russia's special representative for human rights, democracy and the rule of law, said Moscow was concerned about what it described as growing Russophobia and pressure on Russian-speaking residents in the Baltic states. He alleged that activists advocating closer ties with Russia faced repression and accused Baltic governments of restricting Russian-language education. The Baltic states have repeatedly rejected similar accusations from Moscow, arguing that their policies are aimed at strengthening national integration and security following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
