Montreal police arrest 2 suspects in connection with antisemitic attacks

Montreal police (SPVM) have arrested two 20-year-old suspects in connection with attacks targeting members of the Hasidic Jewish community in Outremont earlier this month.

Security footage spliced together shows the suspects roaming the neighbourhood, allegedly approaching victims, shouting insults and throwing items at them. A man is also seen stealing several shtreimels, the traditional fur hats worn by Hasidic Jewish men.

The announcement comes at a time when antisemitic incidents are on the rise according to community leaders.

“It’s a relief that these suspects will face justice. It’s relief that the SPVM are taking this seriously. It’s a relief the perpetrators will face justice.” Sam Muller, Executive Director of the Jewish Hasidic Council of Quebec, said.
