Titan News welcomes Jahannah James as host, and her first episode goes directly to one of the most significant ongoing excavations in the world: the Hawara Pyramid complex in the Faiyum, Egypt, where the not-so-lost labyrinth of ancient Egypt is finally being dug.
The labyrinth has been referenced by Herodotus, who visited its upper levels in the fifth century BC and described it as more impressive than the Pyramids of Giza, and by Pliny the Elder and Strabo. Herodotus noted a subterranean level he was not permitted to enter, where the priests told him the kings who first built the labyrinth were buried. For most of modern history it was treated as legend. That changed in 2008 when French researcher Louis de Cordier conducted ground penetrating radar surveys and found meter-thick granite walls, sharp right angles, and structural levels descending well below eight meters. He reported his findings to the Egyptian government, prepared a global press release, and was issued a national security sanction prohibiting him from publishing. The data sat suppressed for years.
What changed is that a full Merlin Burrows satellite scan of the area has now confirmed not just rooms, chambers, and passageways, but objects: artifacts, statues, and at the centre of the labyrinth, a 40-foot oblong metallic object made of a compound the scan database cannot identify. It is not a metal currently in the system. The Egyptian government has approved excavation, and the dig is now underway with a commitment to full transparency, a digital catalogue of everything that comes out of the ground, and plans for a camera technology that echo-locates in complete darkness through a hole just centimetres wide, giving a near-perfect 3D rendering of what is down there before a single wall is touched. An AI database is being built from every historical source, including ancient Arabic texts never previously translated into English, to provide context for whatever the hieroglyphs inside turn out to say.
