Eight of Germany's 16 state prime ministers have issued a statement backing Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as his government faces political pressure ahead of state elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The state premiers, all from Merz's CDU or its Bavarian ally CSU, said they support his efforts to address Germany's challenges and restore prosperity.
The statement comes after recent electoral setbacks for the CDU and amid low polling numbers for Merz and his party.
