‘Trump Said U.S Taking Billions - Where Is It?’: Scott Bessent Cornered Over Venezuela Oil Money

Rep. Sean Casten pressed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over Donald Trump’s claim that the United States is taking in “billions and billions of dollars” from Venezuela, repeatedly asking who exactly Trump meant by “we.” Casten questioned whether the money was flowing to the U.S. government, American companies or individual U.S. persons.

Bessent said the Venezuela arrangement represented one of the largest assets ever brought onto the U.S. balance sheet, but acknowledged he could not say whether proceeds were flowing to individual U.S. persons. The exchange comes as the Trump administration promotes sweeping U.S. energy and investment deals in Venezuela, including majority control over vast oil reserves and new American private-sector projects.
