Is the US violating a space treaty by deploying weapons in Earth's orbit?

The US has confirmed for the first time that it has deployed weapons in space to defend American forces, without disclosing specific weapon details or how long they have been in orbit.

Space security expert Dr Mark Hilborne explains that weapons in orbit are primarily designed for defence against attacks in space, but warns growing capabilities may test international treaties.
