German Firms Invest More In China As Trump Trade Policies Hit US Appeal
German firms increased their investment in China by a third to €5.6 billion in the first half of the year, even as investment in the United States plunged by nearly two-thirds to €4.2 billion. With China offering a crucial market, lower production costs and a favourable exchange rate, German companies are continuing to expand there. But growing competition and concerns over unfair Chinese subsidies are also pushing German industry to demand a tougher stance from Chancellor Merz ahead of upcoming EU-China talks.
