'We were stunned': Former deputy commissioner of the NYC fire department reflects on 9/11

One of New York's most senior firefighters during 9/11 described the attack as "the world started to come apart".

Lynn Tierney, the then-deputy commissioner for the New York City Fire department described the moment the first tower was hit.

A police officer covered her with his body to protect her after the initial impact.

Tierney said she prayed that day, asking if she was going to die, "to make it fast".
