Donald Trump has tied the end of the Iran war directly to the U.S. midterm elections, predicting the conflict will end “immediately after the election” even as oil prices climb back above $100 a barrel.

Trump said Iran is struggling economically, claimed the U.S. controls the Strait of Hormuz and warned that more attacks are coming. He also suggested gasoline prices may not fall below $2 until after the midterms, putting the economic cost of the war squarely into the election debate.
