Iran’s proposed Hormuz 'restricted zone' responds to US pressure, analyst says

Iran's top security official says a new route for the Strait of Hormuz agreed with Oman will be signed in the coming days.
Mohsen Rezaei also says Tehran will be introducing a new restricted zone beyond the Strait.

Iran's top negotiator says any further US attacks will be met with heavier retaliatory strikes.
It comes after the US military struck and destroyed three Iranian crude oil ships on Saturday.

Stephen Zunes, founding chair of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of San Francisco, tells Al Jazeera that Iran sees political leverage in its ability to disrupt Strait of Hormuz shipping amid escalating US pressure.
