Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon has accused the UN Security Council of becoming politicised and using emergency meetings as opportunities to “bash Israel.” Speaking at the Council, Danon criticised what he described as a disproportionate focus on Israel while pointing to threats including Iran, Houthi attacks on shipping and Hamas-held hostages. He called for changes to the Council’s working methods, including raising the threshold for requesting emergency meetings. Danon also questioned the effectiveness of hundreds of hours spent in Security Council sessions, arguing that despite extensive deliberations, major regional security challenges remain unresolved. His remarks come amid continued tensions across the Middle East.
