Saudi Arabia faces a major new challenge in the Red Sea after reports that a Saudi ship was targeted near the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The reported attack comes as Riyadh appears to be preparing for a possible military offensive against the Houthis, with both naval and ground operations being discussed.
Saudi Arabia is also working to build a multinational maritime coalition, with 14 countries reportedly backing a joint statement on maritime defence. Meanwhile, the Houthis continue attacks around Yemen’s Red Sea coast.
Adding another layer to the crisis, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Iran proved it is a “tough and invincible power,” claiming the US went from demanding Iran’s “unconditional surrender” to seeking negotiations.
