Government Clarifies Amid Buzz Of UPI Charges: Person To Person Transactions Will Be Free | Breaking

The Ministry of Finance has issued a clarification addressing widespread rumors regarding UPI transaction charges. The government confirmed that person-to-person transactions and everyday consumer payments will remain completely free of charge. Any proposed Merchant Discount Rate will apply strictly to a limited category of large merchants, such as e-commerce platforms with an annual turnover exceeding four crore rupees, at a nominal rate lower than debit or credit card charges. The vast majority of UPI transactions for consumers and small merchants will not face any additional fee.
