US President Donald Trump put plans for a major military offensive against Iran on hold as reports suggested concerns over dwindling US munitions supplies played a key role in the decision. Plans to escalate the military campaign were shelved partly because of shrinking stockpiles of Patriot missile interceptors and other defensive weapons, The New York Times reported.
The development comes as the conflict between the United States and Iran approaches its fifth month after weeks of sustained US airstrikes. CNN, citing an unidentified Pentagon source, also reported that US military operations against Iran were “on hold", despite Trump’s warning that Tehran could face attacks at a “much higher level" if diplomatic efforts fail.
