Modi Govt Approves Public Examination Act Amendment Bill; Tougher Anti-Paper Leak Law Cleared

The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Public Examination Act Amendment Bill 2024 to initiate a strict crackdown on the paper leak mafia. Expected to be introduced in Parliament by Dr. Jitendra Singh, the proposed bill introduces fast-track courts along with increased fines running into crores of rupees and harsher punishments. The decision follows a late-night video message from Prime Minister Modi reaching out to angry, protesting students and promising swift legal action and systemic reforms. Meanwhile, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his fast in the presence of Union Minister JP Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh following ongoing outreach and government negotiations with representatives.
