New Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya outlines priorities in first statement since taking office

Hamas’s newly elected political bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya has made his first public statement since taking over the group’s leadership.
Hayya said Hamas’s priorities include restoring what he called a dignified life for Palestinians in Gaza and accelerating reconstruction.
He rejected any conditions linking Gaza’s rebuilding to political concessions or agreements.
Hayya said Gaza would remain part of a Palestinian entity and pledged to continue pursuing goals involving Gaza, the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
He also called for efforts to free Palestinian prisoners and end what he described as their suffering.
The Hamas leader stressed that achieving Palestinian unity remains one of the group’s key objectives.
