US President Donald Trump praised some of football's biggest stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final, describing Lionel Messi's vision and passing as "brilliant" while also applauding Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane.

Speaking at a FIFA reception in New York City, Trump reflected on Argentina's journey to the final against Spain and recalled one of Messi's decisive moments during the tournament.

"I watched that pass that Messi made... It was within, I would say, a quarter of an inch of being perfect. And that was the end of the game. It was brilliant."

Trump said that players like Messi possess a rare talent that cannot be taught.

"These great players, they seem to do that over and over again. They're just born with something extra."

The US President also praised Cristiano Ronaldo, saying he had gotten to know the Portuguese superstar over the years and calling him "a great guy."

Turning to England captain Harry Kane, Trump said he had played golf with the striker and suggested England made a tactical error by asking Kane to take on a more defensive role after taking the lead in their semifinal.

Trump's remarks came just days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final, where Argentina will face Spain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The US President is expected to attend the final alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino and participate in the post-match trophy ceremony.
