Home Secretary on Ann Widdecombe: 'Circumstances of her death are extremely distressing'

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has paid tribute to Ann Widdecombe following the former Conservative MP's murder.

Widdecombe was found dead in her home last Thursday, and a murder investigation was subsequently launched.

The Home Secretary said: "The circumstances of her death are extremely distressing. Counter terrorism police have now taken the lead in the investigation."

She added that a 28-year-old man who is being held by police was not known to Prevent.
