ASEAN foreign ministers hold informal meeting with Myanmar counterpart in Bangkok

ASEAN foreign ministers have underscored the relevance of the bloc's Five-Point Consensus (5PC) peace plan for Myanmar during an informal meeting with its top diplomat. ASEAN chair Philippines led the talks in Bangkok — the grouping's first such in-person engagement with Myanmar since the military coup in 2021. The meeting could pave the way for normalising relations between ASEAN and Myanmar, but Myanmar lawmakers have recently challenged the 5PC, calling it interference.
