Lukubu Village outside Zeerust in the North West is recording an alarming number of cases of statutory rape. Just recently, a 42-year-old has been remanded in custody for alleged statutory rape.

The court heard that the accused is in a relationship with a 14-year-old-girl.

Advocacy group Kgaratlhelo Foundation is concerned that most families are not reporting these cases, though aware of them.

Last month in parliament the Porfolio Commitee on police heard that almost 1,900 statutory rape cases have been withdrawn in the past fives years in the country.

SABC News Reporter Tebogo Phakedi and Video Journalist Sello Mogopa visisted the area.
