Most people drive right past this part of South Carolina without a second thought. But hidden just outside of Columbia lies a swamp that feels like a portal to another time. They call it the "Redwoods of the East," and we had to go find out if these ancient giants lived up to the legends.
In this journey through Congaree National Park, we’re walking among massive cypress and loblolly pines that form one of the highest canopies in the world. But as we went deeper into the swamp, we found more than just big trees. We found a place that once served as a sanctuary for those seeking freedom and a forest that narrowly escaped the logging saws of the past.
Is this park really worth the detour, or should you keep driving? We’re sharing our honest take on why you shouldn't let someone else’s story influence you to miss a place you might actually love. Especially when it’s one of our nation's treasures.
