Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it struck the Togo-flagged tanker Trend while it was attempting what Tehran called an “illegal passage” through the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC claims the tanker was hit and caught fire before stopping, while UKMTO said the fire was later extinguished and all crew members were reported safe.
The incident comes as tensions between Iran and the United States remain extremely high. President Donald Trump told Axios he is approaching a critical decision over whether to restart major attacks, while thousands of U.S. troops and military assets remain deployed across the Middle East.
