Mayoral candidate charged over threats | CTV News Ottawa at Six for September 18, 2026

A disturbing development in the Ottawa municipal election campaign has resulted in a mayoral candidate facing criminal charges. CTV's Natalie van Rooy reports that Geoffrey Nicholas Griplas was arrested in Ottawa and transported to Kingston to face charges of criminal harassment, uttering threats and firearms offences; a multi-vehicle crash on County Road 17 in South Glengarry has claimed the lives of three local residents, including a teenager. CTV's Tyler Fleming reports that the three-vehicle collision occurred Thursday night near Williamstown, resulting in the deaths of a 61-year-old driver and a 54-year-old passenger from South Glengarry, along with an 18-year-old driver from North Glengarry; and a 26-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge in connection with a random stabbing in Deep River that prompted a town-wide shelter-in-place order last week. CTV's Katelyn Wilson reports that police have arrested local resident Haedyn Fry, who is also charged with failing to comply with probation, while 69-year-old Sharon Druery is charged with obstructing a police officer.
