Anger has spilt onto the streets of Niger State, Nigeria, after 37 miners died in the custody of security forces.

The group had been detained earlier this week during raids on suspected illegal gold mines. Protests in the state capital, Minna, turned violent, with government buildings attacked and buses and other public transport damaged. Police responded with force, and at least two people have been killed in the confrontations, with several others injured.

Authorities have ordered an investigation.
