Iran has issued a fierce response after U.S. President Donald Trump declared that he would "soon" make the Strait of Hormuz a territory of the United States following Iran's defeat. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi rejected Trump's remarks, declaring that "The Strait of Hormuz has been Iranian, is Iranian, and will remain Iranian." In a strongly worded statement, he said the strategic waterway cannot be seized by a tweet, an aircraft carrier, an executive order or an election speech, adding that Iran neither fears threats nor bows to displays of power.
