Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges related to the fatal shooting of UnitedHealth Group Inc. executive Brian Thompson in a case that for many symbolized the rage at the US healthcare system. #nyc#newyork#crimenews#news#usa#health
Mangione, 28, admitted Friday that he shot Thompson in December 2024 outside an investor conference at a midtown Manhattan hotel. He didn’t make a plea deal with prosectors and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
“On the morning of Dec. 4, 2024, I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan and he died,” Mangione said in New York federal court. “When I did, I understood my actions would place him in fear of death or bodily injury. I knew what I was doing was illegal.”
