China's Gulf Coup Against U.S.? America On Retreat, Saudi’s Mecca Pact Hands Xi A Big Win | Details
Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have signed a landmark defence agreement in Mecca, raising fresh questions about the future of Gulf security and China’s expanding influence in the region. The pact comes as Riyadh reassesses its dependence on the traditional US-led security architecture after years of regional instability, missile threats and attacks on Gulf infrastructure. While the three countries have avoided presenting the agreement as a NATO-style alliance, analysts say the partnership could create new opportunities for China. Pakistan’s deep military relationship with Beijing, combined with Saudi Arabia’s growing engagement with China, could provide Beijing with an indirect route into the Gulf’s defence landscape. The agreement also comes amid wider shifts in Middle Eastern alliances, including closer Saudi-Turkish ties and growing calls for greater strategic autonomy.
