European Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius has warned that Russia remains the biggest long-term security threat to Europe and NATO, claiming Moscow is outpacing Europe in key defence sectors and could eventually produce up to 10 million drones annually. Speaking in the United States, Kubilius said Russia's expanding military-industrial base and continued war in Ukraine are forcing Europe to accelerate defence spending, strengthen its industrial capacity and build a stronger European pillar within NATO through what he described as "NATO 3.0." He also argued that Europe must prepare for a prolonged strategic challenge from Russia while learning from Ukraine's battlefield innovations.
