Following nationwide protests over the NEET paper leak and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Centre has introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in Parliament. The proposed law significantly tightens penalties for exam fraud, with prison terms of up to 10 years and fines up to ₹50 lakh for offenders. Service providers involved in paper leaks could face fines of ₹5 crore and an eight-year ban from conducting public examinations. The bill also mandates two-month investigations, fast-track courts, and time-bound trials to strengthen transparency, restore public confidence, and curb examination malpractices across India.
