Days after the devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela, the humanitarian disaster is becoming a battle for political power.
Acting President Delcy Rodriguez is facing anger over her government’s rescue response just as her 180-day interim mandate expires. Her main rival, exiled opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, says the disaster has exposed the failure of the Government and she wants to return to Venezuela.
But there is a major twist: the Trump administration appears to prefer stability under Rodriguez and has discouraged Machado from returning.
Caracas-based journalist Noris Soto joins us to describe what she is seeing and hearing on the Streets, and whether the earthquakes have genuinely weakened Venezuela’s government.
