Georgia teen who killed 4 in school shooting sentenced to life without parole

A 16-year-old Georgia boy will spend the rest of his life in prison after killing four people in a 2024 school shooting, a Barrow County Superior Court judge ruled Tuesday.

Colt Gray pleaded guilty to 55 related counts, including murder and assault charges, Friday, before the judge’s decision was made the next week.

Gray was charged as an adult for the shooting which left 14-year-old Apalachee High School students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, and teachers Cristina Irimie, 53, and Richard Aspinwall, 39, dead on Sept. 4, 2024.

“Four lives were stolen, two of them really just beginning, and it wasn't done out of fear or anger. You weren't being bullied at Apalachee. It wasn't done out of hatred. You didn't even know anyone at that school. It was done for the infamy of it,” Chief Judge Nicholas Primm said to a seemingly impassive Gray.

“The pain that you visited upon this community is unlikely to disappear in my lifetime… the injured will not forget their wounds. And a 16-year-old boy will live and die in prison,” Judge Nicholas Primm added.
