What Is Appendix Pain?
Appendix pain occurs when the appendix becomes inflamed or infected, a condition known as appendicitis.
The appendix is a small pouch attached to the large intestine in the lower right abdomen.
Without treatment, inflammation can worsen and may lead to rupture.
Why Can Appendix Pain Come and Go?
During the early stages, inflammation may be mild, causing pain that feels intermittent.
As swelling increases:
Pressure builds inside the appendix.
The surrounding tissues become irritated.
Pain usually becomes sharper and more constant.
A temporary decrease in pain does not always mean the problem has resolved. In some cases, sudden relief may occur if the appendix ruptures, which is a medical emergency.
